Major Programmes of EHRCO

Ethiopian Human Rights council has various programmes and initiatives to deploy its primary objectives in the country.

Civic Education

Objectives:

  • To Facilitate citizens' preparedness to promote and defend human rights, rule of law and democratic principles
  • To encourage awareness regarding human rights, rule of law and democratization

Monitoring of human rights rule of law and Democratization

Objectives

  • To enhance public awareness regarding the performance of the government and other groups with respect to human rights
  • To investigate instances of human right violations
  • To monitor and contribute to measures that have been taken to improve the human right situation
  • To provide early warning to government to take preventive / remedial actions in potential conflict areas
  • To encourage the government to adopt and implement national and international laws and protect human rights
  • To record and compile a database on the human rights situation for research and education purposes, as well as to bring human rights violations to justice.

Advocacy

Objectives

  • To facilitate citizens' preparedness to promote and defend human rights, rule of law and democratic principles
  •  To influence the government to undertake human rights promotional measures and bring an end to policies and practices violating human rights
  • To initiate public debate on critical issues that are so common that they are so common that they are " forgotten"
  • To encourage awareness regarding human rights, rule of law and democratization

Public Relation and Documentation

Objectives:

  • To promote a positive image of EHRCO and clear communication of its position
  •  To publicize EHRCO's achievements activities in order to create better awareness so that the government as well as the public
  • To draw sympathy and support of the general public by enlarge and others in particular
  • To develop high commitments in members and staff
  • To strengthen EHRCO's networking, collaboration and partnership with other human rights and civil society
